@kmanmx mine was based on eMagin OLED microdisplays, theirs use Samsung OLED panels. Hard to get wide FOV with microdisplays.

Carmack Tweet on eMagin Microdisplays and gaming
FOV is what Oculomania is all about. Carmack used some prototype WUXGA eMagin Microdisplays way back when in a jerry rigged gaming HMD he and Blezinski tried out. He obviously decided to sacrifice increases in distortion for a wider FOV. So, here comes the cell phone displays, the trend with Oculus and myriad imitators. However, at the Needham Conference eMagin CEO Sculley described using an eMagin HMD for gaming and in his words the experience of playing a First Person Shooter was "immersive". So I wonder how they accomplished that with a smaller format display. Tiled displays might do the trick, new prism design? I guess we'll have to wait for their SXGA digital successor to the Z800 to be unveiled to see what the basement dwellers have to say.
